At the Red Cross, we depend on our volunteers, who constitute 97 percent of our total workforce, to carry out humanitarian work.

Disaster Volunteers needed for local and national disaster. Local Disaster Volunteers are train to respond to local family fires by working on our Disaster Action Team (DAT) or to work in our local shelters during times of local disaster. National Disaster Volunteers are train for 2-3 week deployment to places outside of Russell County area when natural or man – made disaster strikes elsewhere. Training is required and the training is offered free of charge.

Blood Donors Volunteers needed on the second Thursday of every month (January, March, May, July, September and November). Blood is always needed in our area as well as nationwide. Only 4% of eligible people in Alabama donate blood, and a large majority of that comes from schools and colleges. Please be part of the chapter’s blood drives or if you would like, you can schedule your own blood drive at your business, school, or church. Just call our chapter office to arrange your own blood drive.

Youth Club Volunteers is an assembly of dedicated volunteers who support the Red Cross mission, generally through event – based activities. They build awareness for the Red Cross among the young, civic-minded philanthropists, promoting fundraising opportunities as well as service delivery, like disaster relief and preparedness education.

Health & Safety Volunteers needed to teach classes for the chapter. Times and days vary, flexible schedule works best. Volunteers are also need to lead community presentations. Training is provided free of charge.

Computer Technician Volunteers needed to help build online and download programs. The volunteer technician would diagnose and troubleshoot hardware failure. Ensuring the anti-virus software is installed, properly configuring regular updates and work properly on all PC and serve stations.

Office Volunteers needed to answer the phones, typing letters on Microsoft Word, copying, and filing.

Fundraising Volunteers are needed to work at various fundraising events throughout the year. You will work under the Community Development Director to come up with ways to fundraise in our community as well as advertising the Russell County Red Cross Chapter.
