At the Red Cross, we depend on our volunteers, who constitue 97 percent of our total work force, to carry on out humanitarian work. Here are some of our volunteer needs: Clerical Volunteers at the office - Job would include answering the phones, typing letters on Microsoft Word, copying and filing and other various jobs as needed. Community Outreach - Job would include visits to the local hospital, nursing homes, schools and other community groups. The hours for this position are very flexible because visits can take place on weekends or evenings as well as the normal work week. Disaster Volunteers - needed for local and national disaster. Local Disaster Volunteers could train to respond to local family fires by working on our Disaster Action Team (DAT) or to work in our local shelters during times of local disaster. National Disaster Volunteers could train for 2-3 week deployment to places outside of Russell County when natural or man-made disaster strikes elsewhere. Training is required for each of these positions, and the training is offered free of charge. Health & Safety Volunteers - needed to teach CPR and First Aid classes in the community. Times and days vary, a flexible schedule works best. Volunteers are also needed to lead community presentations, most often in the elementary schools, and sometimes for other groups like boy/girl scouts, PTA, etc. Training is provided for free. Fundraising Volunteers - needed to organize and/or work at various fundraisers throughout the year. Fundraising and/or marketing skills a plus. Will be working under the Chapter Manager to come up with new ways to fundraise in our community as well as trying to advertise the Russell County Red Cross Chapter throughout Russell and Barbour counties. Blood Donors - needed on the second Thursday of every-other month (Sept. 14, Nov. 9, etc.) Blood is always needed in our area as well as nationwide. Only 4% of eligible people in Alabama donate blood, and a large majority of that comes from schools and colleges. Please be a part of our chapter's blood drives or if you would like, you can schedule your own blood drive at your business/school/etc. Just call our office to arrange your own blood drive. Don't wait another day to find out how good it feel to wear the Red Cross emblem. Contact your Red Cross for more information right now, or download and print the Volunteer Application and turn it in to your local Red Cross Chapter. |
